Explore Our Living Laboratory

At the MWMO, you’ll discover how green infrastructure, public art, and innovative stormwater features come together to protect water quality and connect our community to the Mississippi River. Our Stormwater Park and Learning Center is a living laboratory where science, sustainability, and design intersect.

What You’ll Experience

  • Guided ToursExplore our innovative facility and learn how we manage stormwater on-site using green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavers, and underground filtration systems.
  • Interactive ExhibitsEngage with hands-on displays that explain how stormwater affects the river and what we can do to protect it.
  • Pollinator-Friendly LandscapingSee how native plants support biodiversity and help filter runoff before it reaches the river.
  • Public Art InstallationsDiscover how art is integrated into our landscape to inspire environmental stewardship.
  • Staff Q&AMeet our team of scientists, educators, and planners who will be on hand to answer your questions about water quality, habitat restoration, and community engagement.

No registration is required. Whether you’re an environmental enthusiast, a curious neighbor, or a family looking for a fun and educational outing, we welcome you to explore our site and learn how we’re working to protect and enhance the Mississippi River.

The Sacred Water Shared Future campaign is powered by you! The heart of this centennial celebration is the incredible variety of events planned and hosted by our partners — community groups, nonprofits, businesses, schools, and individuals who feel a connection to the Mississippi River.

We do not host events ourselves; instead, we serve as a central hub for river-focused activities happening across the Twin Cities throughout 2026.
