Public Tree Planting

Mississippi Park Connection needs help planting over 1,000 trees and shrubs at Crosby Farm Regional Park this tree-planting season. In collaboration with the City of Saint Paul, we will be planting climate-adapted trees and shrubs to fill the gaps, create habitat, and grow a more resilient canopy in our floodplain forest. No experience required! We will give you a tree planting demonstration at the beginning of the event. This event is great for adults and kids over 12 years old. Please join us on October 9th, October 17th and November 7th.
What to Expect:
Tree plantings
Basic tree/shrub ID skills
Community project to help grow a more resilient urban tree canopy
What to Bring:
A full water bottle (there are no water fountains, but we will have extra water)
A light snack
Sturdy, closed-toed shoes that you are okay with getting dirty/muddy
Weather-appropriate clothing to get wet/muddy in (long pants, long-sleeved shirts, layers, etc.)
We will have all the tools you will need, including work gloves and a first-aid kit There is a port-a-potty in the parking lot, otherwise, there is a Speedway gas station less than a mile away
Important Information:
Our planting site for the day is roughly a half-mile/10-minute walk from the parking lot on relatively flat gravel and dirt paths that will be muddy and uneven. The areas where we will be planting include some uneven ground, muddy areas, and the nettle areas. Volunteers will be using heavier tools like shovels and buckets of water. Volunteers will need to bend, kneel, and/or squat to plant.
The Sacred Water Shared Future campaign is powered by you! The heart of this centennial celebration is the incredible variety of events planned and hosted by our partners — community groups, nonprofits, businesses, schools, and individuals who feel a connection to the Mississippi River.
We do not host events ourselves; instead, we serve as a central hub for river-focused activities happening across the Twin Cities throughout 2026.
