These locations — each shaped by different moments in Minnesota’s industrial history — are connected by rivers and lakes whose presence enabled movement\, industry\, and settlement while leaving lasting marks on the surrounding landscape. \nAcross seasons and multiple visits\, Hanlon observed\, photographed\, and created work on site. The resulting pieces reflect both the layered timelines of these places and her embodied experience of encountering them in the present moment. Familiar structures reappear throughout the exhibition: the historic lighthouse along the Lake Superior shipping canal\, boathouses along the Mississippi River in Red Wing\, and the remains of a Power House in a former sandstone quarry on the Kettle River. \nThe exhibition includes large- and medium-scale oil paintings on canvas and wood\, oil studies on Arches paper\, linocut and collagraph prints\, and a collection of colored pencil studies. Rather than document a single view\, the works speak together — holding multiple moments at once and mirroring the way places are understood through memory\, repetition\, and attentive noticing. DESCRIPTION:City of Brainerd and Great River Greening are partnering to host a Biochar Demonstration at Rotary Riverside Park. Live demonstration: converting buckthorn wood waste into biochar using on-site kilns. \nGRG staff will be onsite running the kiln and answer questions/educate on biochar\, its uses and how flame capped kilns work. \nGRG Staff will walk participants through the process of managing a kiln from loading to ignition to quenching. \nDemonstration will be with Big Box and Ring of Fire kilns. \nWho should attend: natural resource professionals and fire professionals (open to everyone)

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation by Jordan Holcomb — Malacologist with the Minnesota DNR. \nMinnesota is home to 51 native species of freshwater mussels that mostly live in rivers. This ecologically important group of filter feeding bottom dwellers experienced major declines in abundance and distribution in the last 100 years\, resulting in nearly half of Minnesota’s species to be listed as threatened or endangered at state or federal levels. Those declines are largely attributed to poor water quality\, over harvesting for commercial button and pearl industries\, invasive species\, and damming of rivers. DESCRIPTION:Join a network of area native pollinator plant enthusiasts and to assist with seed cleaning at the Great River Greening garage (indoors). \nSeed heads of 130 species native pollinator plants were collected during fall community seed collecting events. Join Great River Greening\, Hamline Midway Environmental Committee and MN SEED to help clean and package this community seed stock! \nParticipants will gain practical seed saving skills such as seed cleaning\, seed storage\, and seed starting. The resulting processed native pollinator plant seeds will be used in upcoming MN SEED and Bee Line activities and will be made available at community events throughout the year! \nThis is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary\, we will provide the training and any tools required. \nAll are welcome\, any necessary training will be provided. \nOnce you have registered through GivePulse\, organizers from Great River Greening will approve your registration and you will receive confirmation.
