The Longfellow River Gorge festival is one of Longfellow Community Council’s longest running annual events. Each fall we honor and celebrate the Mississippi River, its history, and its vital ongoing importance to humans and wildlife. The festival educates the community about the River’s functions and ecology in a fun and approachable way, focusing on restoration and conservation. Each year features organized canoe rides on the river, guided tours and hikes, ice cream, music, and many organizations sharing about their work — all FREE!

The Sacred Water Shared Future campaign is powered by you! The heart of this centennial celebration is the incredible variety of events planned and hosted by our partners — community groups, nonprofits, businesses, schools, and individuals who feel a connection to the Mississippi River.
We do not host events ourselves; instead, we serve as a central hub for river-focused activities happening across the Twin Cities throughout 2026.
