This event will start at the Lock and Dam #2 visitor parking lot from there we will walk to the levee where the island is located. Along the way we will have two people from the Corp of Engineers talk about the restoration work in the forest next to the lock and dam. We will continue to walk to the levee and there they will tell us about the reason for the island and the engineering involved in building them. After this talk, we will hear about the future work which is the planting of the island with native plants which will both benefit wildlife and help to stabilize the island. from there we will wall the overlook to get a view of the area from an elevated site.

The Sacred Water Shared Future campaign is powered by you! The heart of this centennial celebration is the incredible variety of events planned and hosted by our partners — community groups, nonprofits, businesses, schools, and individuals who feel a connection to the Mississippi River.
We do not host events ourselves; instead, we serve as a central hub for river-focused activities happening across the Twin Cities throughout 2026.
